Nanaimo RCMP investigating a pair of deliberately set fires

Oct 31, 2016 | 5:54 PM

NANAIMO — Nanaimo RCMP say arson destroyed several cars and a trailer in a pair of fires at a south-end storage yard owned by a towing company.

RCMP Const. Gary O’Brien says the fires were reported at 3 am on Saturday at Central Island Towing on Tenth street.

“When fire crews go there they found one trailer destroyed and the fire had spread to adjacent cars,” said O’Brien. “Most of these cars were for salvage. But at least five were destroyed and five others damaged.”

O’Brien says the cars didn’t have much monetary value as they were salvaged vehicles. He adds that a mattress inside another trailer at an opposite part of the property smoldered, but notes that fire did not cause any significant damage beyond smoke damage.
