Nanaimo’s parks and rec department is looking for ideas for new programs next spring

Oct 30, 2016 | 6:38 AM

NANAIMO — Programs could be in the areas of sports, dance, art, or cooking.

Recreation co-ordinator Grace Bell says the city is looking for online submissions, and ideally people to lead their own suggested programs.

“We’re going to ask questions about class sizes, locations, days and times of the week that those people are available to offer those programs, cost they that would like to see charged for the program, so the form is pretty detailed,” said Bell.

“People are welcome to add as much information in additional pages as they need to to really explain what it is they want to do.”

Bell says anyone submitting an idea should make sure it’s not a program already being offered in the current city of Nanaimo activity guide.

“The deadline is November 10th, that’s for the spring/summer guide that we’re starting to work on right now.

We do accept submissions year round but they do fall into two cycles so anything received after November 10th we wouldn’t be looking at incorporating until the following fall/winter season,” said Bell.

There is renumeration available for anyone who could lead a unique program.

The online submission forms are available at nanaimo.ca and according to Bell there is typically a lot of interest in the areas of fitness and cooking.
