Clippers strong in 2-1 road win over Cowichan Valley

Oct 26, 2016 | 9:12 AM

DUNCAN — They were short manned on defense but the Nanaimo Clippers still earned a 2-1 road victory in Cowichan Valley on Tuesday.

Nanaimo played the game with only five defensemen but it was an impressive team effort from top to bottom.

The first period was scoreless thanks to solid goaltending from the Capitals Lane Michasiw and the Clippers Evan DeBrouwer.

In the second Matt Creamer scored on a breakaway to give Nanaimo the lead, and then Tate Coughlin ripped home a wrist shot on the power play to extend the lead to 2-0.

With the goalie pulled late in the third Rhett Kingston spoiled DeBrouwer’s shutout bid, but the Clippers held on for the win.

On special teams Nanaimo was 1/2 on the power play and 1/1 killing penalties.

The final shots were 29-28 Cowichan Valley.

With the win Nanaimo has now won four straight road games, and in their last eight games they have a record of 5-1-0-2.

Parents Weekend starts on Friday when the Clippers host the West Kelowna Warriors.
