Clippers lose lead and fall 4-3 in OT to Salmon Arm

Oct 22, 2016 | 9:13 PM

NANAIMO – The Clippers earned a single point but one got away in a 4-3 overtime loss to Salmon Arm Saturday.

Nanaimo had a 2-0 lead and led 3-2 in the third period but could hold off the Silverbacks.

Aidan Casey opened the scoring in the first period with his first BCHL goal and Jake Harris scored with under ten seconds left in the opening frame to give Nanaimo a cushion.

But that cushion disappeared in the second period with Salmon Arm capturing the momentum on goals by Cameron Trott and Josh Blanchard.

Jamie Collins first of the season on the back hand gave Nanaimo the lead back early in the third but halfway through the final period Mitch Skapski responded when the teams were playing 4 on 4

For the third time in the last seven games the Clippers went to overtime, and after a scoreless 4 on 4 Salmon Arm leading scorer Elijah Barriga converted a centering pass in the 3 on 3 to end the game.

The shots finished 37-37 with Brandon Kegler getting the win over Austin Roden.

Nanaimo went 1/4 on the power play while Salmon Arm was 0/5.

Next up for the Clippers is a rare Tuesday night game in Duncan against the Capitals.
