Clippers four game winning streak ends with 3-1 loss to Cowichan Valley

Oct 20, 2016 | 8:49 AM

NANAIMO — They had the early lead but Nanaimo couldn’t get their offense going in a 3-1 loss to Cowichan Valley on Wednesday night.

David Silye found a loose puck for his first BCHL goal in the first period, but Jared Domin replied for Capitals to even the score until well into the second.

That’s when former Clipper Nick Guerra scored on a rebound to give the Caps a lead they would never relinquish.

Nanaimo had the run of play in the third period but were stymied by goalie Lane Michasiw and the Cowichan defense.

A late empty netter by Rhett Kingston wrapped up the scoring.

The reigning BCHL Player of the Week Evan DeBrouwer took the loss in net as the Clippers outshot the Capitals 29-24.

Nanaimo was 0/5 on the power play and Cowichan went 0/3.

The loss drops the Clippers into fourth place in an incredibly tight Island Division.

First through fourth are separated by just two points.

There isn’t long until Nanaimo gets a rematch with a return engagement in Duncan on Tuesday.

In the meantime the Clippers host Salmon Arm at 6 p.m. on Saturday.
