NANAIMO — A teenager has died nearly one month after being hit by a truck while she was crossing Highway 19A in north Nanaimo.

The 16-year-old Nanaimo girl had been in B.C. Children’s Hospital in Vancouver after she was hit while trying to cross the highway at Mary Ellen Drive on the evening of Sept. 20.

At the time, Nanaimo RCMP reported that the northbound driver had the green light and that alcohol and speed did not appear to be factors. The teen was thrown 60 feet after being hit, according to RCMP Sgt. Sheryl Armstrong.

Police confirm that the B.C. Coroners Service contacted them about the girl’s death on Saturday night.
