In Parksville, the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation measures construction starts quarterly.

In the third quarter work began on 53 homes, up from 34 the previous year.

Year to date numbers are almost identical with 145 starts this year and 143 in 2015.

Nanaimo is in a group of six BC communities with a population of between 50 and 100 thousand people.

Those other communities are Courtenay, Chilliwack, Kamloops, Prince George and Vernon.
