Clippers beat Coquitlam 4-1 to end three game losing streak

Oct 1, 2016 | 11:04 PM

NANAIMO — It was a thorough team effort for the Clippers against Coquitlam on Saturday night.

Nanaimo won 4-1 to snap a three game losing streak and start the month of October on a winning note.

The first period was scoreless even though the Clippers outshot the Express 22-5.

Coquitlam did have one excellent chance when Cam Bertsch was awarded a penalty shot, but he missed the net on his opportunity.

Lucas Finner opened the scoring in the second period and Matt Kowalski added a goal before the period was five minutes old.

A seeing eye shot by David Giunta fooled Austin Roden late in the period but that would be the goal he would give up.

Taylor Karel’s first BCHL goal in the third gave the Clippers some insurance and Tristan Crozier’s deflection capped off the scoring when he beat goalie Reid Cooper.

The final shots were 45-28 Nanaimo, with the Clippers going 0/4 on the power play and the Express finishing 0/8.

Next up for Nanaimo is a date Sunday at 2pm against Vernon.

The Vipers beat the Clippers 6-3 last week at the BCHL Showcase.
