Clippers struggle in 7-1 loss to Powell River

Sep 28, 2016 | 11:41 PM

POWELL RIVER – A long night for the Clippers was made even longer when a fire alarm suspended their 7-1 loss to Powell River for 20 minutes.

The Kings scored 30 seconds into the game on a shot by Cam Donaldson, but Nanaimo came back with a rebound goal by Matt Creamer to tie the game six minutes in.

Less than two minutes later Tristan Mullin scored his first of two in a row, and Powell River led 3-1 when the game was suspended because of the fire alarm.

After the delay the Kings kept coming with two goals from Carter Turnbull and another from Donaldson before the intermission.

Turnbull’s second and Donaldson’s were both on the power play.

Turnbull completed his hat trick in the third period to round out the scoring.

Brian Wilson took the win over the Clippers Evan DeBrouwer as Powell River outshot Nanaimo 30-20.

The power plays finished 2/9 for the Kings and 0/3 for the Clippers.

Nanaimo will look to shake off Wednesday’s result and put together two solid home results Saturday against Coquitlam and Sunday versus Vernon.
