Funding available for new business ideas in Oceanside region

NANAIMO — The Regional District of Nanaimo is looking for the next big economic idea.

Proposals are now being accepted on the RDN website under the Northern Community Economic Development program. 

Paul Thompson, the RDN’s manager of long range planning, says they have $50,000 in funding available.

“The fund is geared toward providing funding for projects within District 69 which is sort of the Parksville, Qualicum Beach, up to Deep Bay area that are going to contribute to the local economy,” said Thompson.

Over the past few years, the Regional District has been able to fund a lot of worthwhile projects.

“One that maybe comes to mind it’s called Bladerunners. Basically, it’s training for youth so that they can find and keep a job. It’s focused on giving them skills and abilities to get jobs in the construction and landscaping businesses.”

Since the program began in 2011, the program has provided over $200,000 in project funding.

Submissions must be in by October 14.
