Raiders DL Kelly earns player of the week award
NANAIMO — A strong effort in a big rivalry game has earned a VI Raiders defensive lineman some accolades.
Lineman Mason Kelly has been named the BCFC defensive player of the week. He racked up eight tackles and two sacks in a 25-25 tie with the Westshore Rebels on Saturday in Nanaimo.
Kelly and the Raiders defense held the prolific Rebels running game to 212 yards, with an average of 5.5-yards-per-carry. That may seem high, but consider for the season Rebels standout running back Jamel Lyles is averaging nearly nine-yards-per-carry.
Kelly now has three sacks this year.
