Roden leads Clippers to 3-0 win over the Bulldogs

Sep 17, 2016 | 8:26 AM

NANAIMO – Austin Roden just keeps on winning.

As an AP goalie a year ago he won his only Clipper start, and this season he’s 2-0.

On Friday he made 25 stops to lead Nanaimo to a 3-0 win over Alberni Valley.

At the other end of the ice Nanaimo got a goal from Vincent Millette in the second period and then a shorthanded effort by Tristan Crozier in the third.

Ben Solin’s empty netter clinched the game in the last minute, when the Bulldogs pulled Brody Claeys for the extra attacker.

The final shots were 34-25 for the Clippers, with Nanaimo and Alberni both 0/6 on the man advantage.

Nanaimo Captain Spencer Hewson made his season debut after sitting out the start of the campaign with an injury and new defenseman Ian Beck played his first game with the club.

Both players showed well in what was an excellent team effort.

The Clippers will now host the Surrey Eagles Saturday at 6 p.m.
