Nanaimo RCMP are looking for a distraught man who police believe may have a gun and could be a risk to himself.

Police say they don’t believe the public is at risk.

Officers searched the area of Michigan Way and Nanaimo Lakes Road Friday morning, but couldn’t find the man.

The 58-year-old is believed to be driving a light brown Dodge 3500 truck with B.C. license plate HC8 544.

Officers are scouring other areas of Nanaimo as well.

RCMP Const. Gary O’Brien states that the public will be told if the risk assessment of the situation changes.

He adds that if you see the man or truck, do not approach him, but instead call 911 or Nanaimo RCMP.
