City hosts eTown Hall meeting focused on core review

NANAIMO — The city of Nanaimo’s much talked about core services review will be under the spotlight Monday night.

There’s an eTown Hall meeting that gets going at 7 p.m. at the Conference Centre.

At the end of May, council got their hands on the final copy of the core review and have since been working with staff on an implementation plan for the reports many recommendations.

The call for the core review was the most pressing agenda item for the majority of Nanaimo council at the start of their term and cost the city more than $250,000.

Public input is being looked for on all of the 11 areas of the city’s business that the consultants reviewed. There are a host of recommendations in the report, including shutting down the Departure Bay Activity Centre and considering the closure of Beban Park Pool for 3-months in the summer to save money.

The report projects $1.7-million per year in savings, as well as $2.75-million in one-time savings.

People can ask questions and offer feedback on a variety of platforms Monday, including social media, website, email or in person.
