Clippers drop 4-1 decision to Grizzlies

Sep 3, 2016 | 1:53 AM

NANAIMO – The Clippers dropped their fourth preseason game in a row on Friday in a 4-1 setback to Victoria.

It was a tight game throughout most of the night with Victoria getting on the board first with a shot from in close by Sage Englund in the first period.

The only goal of the second was a short handed effort by Victoria’s Cody Van Lierop when he snuck behind the Clippers defense.

Nanaimo had a pair of five on three power plays in the second period but failed to score.

David Silye got the Clippers on the board by putting home a loose puck early in the third period, but the Grizzlies put the game away with a rebound goal from Lucas Clark and a five on three tally by Cole Pickup.

Silye has now scored in three straight games  which will certainly help his cause for making the team.

Brendan Barry stopped 28 shots and played the whole game for Nanaimo while Matthew Galajda made 25 stops for Victoria.

Nanaimo is 0-4 in the preseason and Victoria is 5-0 heading into the exhibition finale Saturday in Sooke.

The Clippers have 27 players and need to get down to the roster limit of 22 by September 9th when they open the season at home to the Alberni Valley.
