Life-threatening injuries for cyclist hit by vehicle south of Nanaimo

NANAIMO — A man is in critical condition after the bike he was riding was hit by a vehicle on the Trans-Canada Highway south of Nanaimo.

RCMP say it happened at 10:30pm Thursday when a 46-year-old man on his bike tried to cross the highway at Morden Road while the light was green and was hit by the soutbound vehicle.

Police say the cyclist was flown to hospital in Victoria with life-threatening injuries.

According to police, he was not wearing a helmet, had no lights on his bike and was not wearing reflective clothing.
