Members of Island Top Team compete at Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Championship

NANAIMO — A successful trip to Las Vegas for two members of Nanaimo’s Brazilian Jiu-jitsu academy.

Dwayne Johnston and Jimmy Lapointe competed at the World Master International Brazilian Jiu-jitsu Championship Thursday through Saturday.

Johnston won Silver in the blue belt ultra heavyweight division.

He won three matches before losing out in the last few seconds of the final.

Lapointe made the quarterfinals in his purple belt middleweight division, winning three matches en route to the quarters.

Both athletes are part of the Island Top Team academy which recently won 12 gold medals at the BC Provincial Brazilian Jiu-jitsu Championships.
