NANAIMO — A Qualicum Beach woman says if not for blood donations, she wouldn’t be here.

At a recent blood drive in Nanaimo, Kim Foster told her story about a life and death situation in Fort St. John a few years back.

Foster got emotional while recalling the story of what happened while she was giving birth to her daughter.

“I bled out. When the doctor arrived to do the surgery, he said it was like operating on chicken. I was completely grey. My family was told I wouldn’t live. It’s still very….it’s hard…the hospital ran out of blood. And my doctor said that he was running to every facet of the hospital trying to find everywhere that they might have that last bit of blood for me,” said Foster, choking back tears.
