NANAIMO — Temperatures should remain toasty across most of the south coast today, but Environment Canada says change is on the way, bringing cooler weather and even rain by the start of next week

Several temperature records were shattered on the island Thursday in Victoria, Nanaimo, Comox and Campbell River, while White Rock, Abbotsford and Hope also broke records on the Mainland.

The hot spot on the island was Campbell River, where the mercury reached 33.6 degrees, easily surpassing the old record of 30.5 set in 1996.

In Nanaimo the thermometer topped out at 32.4 degrees. With the humidex factored in, it felt more like 34 at the peak of the day around four o’clock.
