Austria: Man who knifed 2 will face attempted murder charge

Aug 16, 2016 | 2:48 AM

VIENNA — Austrian police say a man who seriously wounded two train passengers with a knife will be charged with attempted murder once the investigation into the assault is completed.

In a statement Wednesday, police also said the two victims are out of danger, a day after the 60-year-old German man lunged at them from a facing seat as the regional train neared a stop in Austria’s westernmost Vorarlberg province.

Police say the perpetrator has psychological problems and he knifed the victims because he felt threatened by their use of cellphones. He is not being identified due to Austrian privacy laws.
