RIO — A tough outing Sunday for Nanoose Bay’s Mike Mason at the Rio Olympics.

The High Jumper had successful jumps of 2.17 metres and 2.26 metres, but missed the qualifying mark of 2.29.

This was the third Olympics for Mason who finished 19th in 2008, and 8th in 2012.

His result yesterday will leave him in 18th place.

The news was much better for Ontario’s Derek Drouin who did earn a place in Tuesday’s final.

He was able to qualify with a jump of 2.29 metres.
