Raiders face long trip, tough team in Okanagan this weekend

Aug 13, 2016 | 5:52 AM

NANAIMO — The VI Raiders had a strong three quarters in their 55-24 win over the Valley Huskers last week.

They got down 17-0 before storming back for the victory. A massive test this week as the Raiders visit the Apple Bowl in Kelowna to take on the 3-0 Okanagan Sun.

Raiders Coach Jerome Erdman is looking forward to the challenge.

“This is huge, they’re undefeated and there’s three of us that are tied at 2-1 records. Our mission is to go up there and knock them off the unbeaten ranks,” said Erdman.

“They’re a very good football team again this year. They have made some coaching changes but their coaches are doing an awesome job. It’s going to be a tough game.”

The Raiders lost their first game of the season to Westshore two weeks ago, but for Erdman and the team, travel is a big consideration on Saturday.

“The biggest challenge actually is the long trip up. We bus it up during the day and we get there about three and a half to four hours before and get ready to play. That’s always a little bit difficult.”

However, it’s not an excuse the second year Raider coach is willing to use.

“But everybody’s got to do it, they have to do the same thing when they come down here.”

Kick is at 7pm for the game against the Sun, the Raiders are back at home on Saturday August 20 against the Langley Rams.
