VI Raiders return home after loss

After suffering their first ever loss to island rivals the Westshore Rebels last weekend, the VI Raiders return home looking to bounce back as they host the Valley Huskers on Saturday.

The Raiders will need to be better defensively, after yielding 45 points to the Rebels on the road last weekend.

VI sits in the middle of the pack in the BC Football Conference, with a 1-1 mark on the season. The perennially weak Huskers are last place at 0-2.

Kick-off is 2 o’clock at Caledonia Park.

Senior B Tmen open championship series

The Nanaimo Senior B Timbermen meanwhile open the West Coast Senior Lacrosse Association championship series on the road on Saturday.

The Timbermen will be in tough, taking on the first place Langley Warriors in the best-of-five series.

The motivation is simple for the Nanaimo side though. They’re playing for player-manager Shawn Swanson, who is recovering from surgery after suffering a serious neck injury during last round’s series.

Game one goes Saturday at noon in Langley. Game two is back in Nanaimo at the NIC at 5pm on Sunday.

The WLA’s Nanaimo Timbermen closed out their season with an 11-8 loss in Victoria on Friday night.
