NANAIMO — The name of a Nanaimo man charged with starting a fire in a Front Street heritage building has been made public.

60-year-old Thomas Anderson is charged with one count of arson and made a court appearance Thursday.

The July 20 fire was contained to a second storey apartment in the old Globe Hotel building and displaced about 12 people.

Anderson, who was a resident of the building, was arrested two days after the fire.

He’s due back in court on September 22.
