Blood donor clinic Wednesday in Nanaimo

Aug 3, 2016 | 12:16 PM

Canadian Blood Services is holding the second of a two day blood clinic in Nanaimo.

Spokesperson Anne Chabert says they are hoping to get 200 donors.

“We need every type but the most needed type is O negative because they are the universal donors,” said Chabert.  “So if we have a car crash victim and we don’t have time to check the recipients blood type we grab the O negative because that’s the blood type that would work with any patient.”

Chabert says you can register at blood.ca but if you don’t have an appointment you can drop in.

“We have a blood drive mobile clinic at Beban Park from 12pm to 7pm.  We’re in the Social Centre at Auditorium B.  There’s lots of open spaces for drop ins.”

Once you are registered the process of donating blood takes about ten minutes.
