BC Ferry called to assist in rescue near Valdez Island

Aug 2, 2016 | 11:43 AM

NANAIMO — A BC Ferries vessel was called to assist in a marine rescue this morning.

Spokesperson Deborah Marshall says there was a pleasure craft in trouble near Valdez Island, which is close to Galiano Island.

“Our vessel the Coastal Inspiration launched one of it’s rescue boats at approximately 6:34am this morning.  We were on scene by 6:46am.  By the time we arrived on scene the two occupants of the pleasure craft were in their dinghy,” said Marshall.  “It’s my understanding the pleasure craft was taking on water.”

Marshall says their vessel was told to stand down a few minutes later because the coast guard was able to take over. Ultimately their rescue boat wasn’t needed but she notes crews are always ready.
