Three car crash ties up Parksville traffic

Jul 27, 2016 | 5:30 PM

PARKSVILLE — An ill-advised left turn caused traffic headaches early Wednesday afternoon in Parksville.

Much of Highway 19A through downtown Parksville was tied-up for about an hour thanks to a three vehicle crash.

Oceanside RCMP Cpl. Jesse Foreman says a 74 year old Nanoose man heading south tried to make a left turn onto McVickers Street, in front of two cars.

“Those vehicles struck his Toyota Highlander, knocking it up on its side. It was actually up on its two wheels,” said Foreman.

“The gentleman sustained some injuries to his left arm and was taken by ambulance to Nanaimo Regional hospital. He’s expected to be just fine.”

Foreman says the two other drivers involved weren’t hurt and no charges are expected.

“This gentleman definitely did proceed when it wasn’t safe to do so. The vehicles had just entered the intersection on the beginnings of a yellow light. It would appear that this gentleman is at fault for this collision.”

Foreman says because three vehicles were involved, tying up most of the northbound lanes, traffic was snarled throughout the entire Parksville area for about an hour.
