Questions surface in assault investigation in Chemainus

Jul 22, 2016 | 12:03 PM

An interesting development in an assault case from Chemainus.

Back on July 12th, a man was attacked as he walked down Victoria Road.

Duncan RCMP Cpl. Krista Hobday says not long after the media aired the story, two men showed up at the Detachment to talk to investigators about their role in the incident.

“Their perspective was a little bit different, so we’re investigating that. We’ll be more than likely speaking again with the victim and asking for their rendition of what happened. Things may not always be as they first appear,”said Hobday

Hobday says it’s not often a suspect, or suspects, show up at the Detachment door.

“People that are involved in incidents like this usually want anonymity. They’re not looking to speak with the police. But these two gentlemen did come in. And because of the information that we did receive from them we don’t believe that there’s any threats to public safety and that this may not have been as random an attack as was first reported.”

At this time there are no charges being recommended.
