Mighty Mouse tops UFC pound-for-pound rankings, Lesnar among top heavyweights

LAS VEGAS — Brock Lesnar has entered the UFC heavyweight rankings at No. 8 after beating Mark Hunt in his first MMA fight since December 2011.

The former UFC heavyweight champion returned to action Saturday at UFC 200 in Las Vegas, picking up a basic purse of US$2.5 million for winning a decision over Hunt. Lesnar bumped Hunt to No. 9 in the rankings.

Lesnar returned to the WWE after his first seven-fight stint in the UFC. As to his fighting future, he told reporters in Las Vegas: “Brock Lesnar does what Brock Lesnar wants to do.”

Former light-heavyweight champion Jon (Bones) Jones, pulled from the UFC 200 card due to a positive drug test, fell out of top spot in the UFC’s pound-for-pound rankings. He was replaced by flyweight champion Demetrious (Mighty Mouse) Johnson with bantamweight title-holder Dominick (The Dominator) Cruz moving up to No. 2. Jones slipped to No. 3 in the pound-for-pound rankings. 

The rest of the top 10 consisted of welterweight champion (Ruthless) Robbie Lawler, featherweight title-holder (The Notorious) Conor McGregor, light-heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier, former featherweight title-holder Jose Aldo, newly crowned lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez, strawweight title-holder Joanna Jedrzejczyk and heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic.

Former bantamweight champion Miesha (Cupcake) Tate fell to No. 1 among women’s 135-pound contenders after losing her title to Florida-based Brazilian Amanda (The Lioness) Nunes in the main event Saturday night. That pushed former champions Holly (The Preacher’s Daughter) Holm and (Rowdy) Ronda Rousey down to No. 2 and No. 3 respectively.

Julianna (The Venezuelan Vixen) climbed to No. 4 in the bantamweight rankings after beating (Alpha) Cat Zingano, who fell two spots to No. 5.

Kelvin Gastelum moved up two places to No. 6 in the welterweight rankings after defeating former champion Johny (Bigg Rigg) Hendricks, who fell two places to No. 8.
