MONTREAL — Former champion Lucian Bute of Montreal will have the B-sample tested from his positive result in May for the banned substance Ostarine, the World Boxing Council announced Wednesday.

Bute 36, tested positive after losing an April 30 bout by majority decision against super-middleweight champion Badou Jack on April 30 in Washington, D.C. The B-sample will be tested Thursday and a second positive result would likely result in a suspension.

The WBC was notified May 27 that Bute’s post-fight urine sample turned up Ostarine, which is not a steroid but acts like one in increasing endurance and muscle mass. It was been on the World Anti-Doping agency’s banned list since 2008.

Bute has denied using banned substances and expressed confidence that the B-sample would prove it.
